Echoes Beyond the Peninsula

Echoes Beyond the Peninsula is a commissioning project that invites five composers of Korean and Korean-American descent to create new works for saxophone. Each piece draws inspiration from Korean traditional or folk music, offering fresh perspectives on the instrument while reflecting on heritage and identity.

For me, this project is both professional and personal. Growing up, I rarely encountered repertoire that reflected Korean culture within the classical saxophone world. By working with these composers, I hope to begin filling that gap — bringing forward music that honors tradition while imagining something entirely new.

These works will be premiered in Spring 2026, with performances that introduce audiences to this style of repertoire for the very first time. The premieres will be followed by high-quality recordings, ensuring the music continues to reach saxophonists and listeners around the world.
